Subject    Reporting of absences from work

As the result of a recent self-assessment of the Department's practices related to finances and human resources I will have to stress the following policy concerning Attendance (Policy HR0505):

"Staff and student employees are expected to be at work on time for their scheduled work period. The employee's supervisor must be informed prior to the beginning of the work period of any absence or variation from the established work schedule."

In praxis this implies that everybody who has a supervisor is required to inform their supervisor in person, by phone, or through email prior to the absence, independent of whether the absence is vacation, sickness, doctor's appointment., etc. etc. It is NOT enough just to note the absence on the time sheet that is filled out at the end of the month (or biweekly period).

If you are in doubt about who your supervisor might be, please ask Pam Carter. Examples: GTAs report to Dr. Jim Parks; GRAs and all research faculty and staff usually report to the PI on their research contract.
