Books:

Frontiers in Surface and interface Sciences, Special issue of Surface Science, Volume 500 (2002), edited by Charles Duke and Ward Plummer.

This volume is a collection of articles about the future of surface and interface science in the next millennium. Its intent is to express, in simple language, the exciting prospects at the frontiers of surface and interface science at the turn of the millenium. The articles illustrate a future that embraces surface phenomena on scales from the subatomic to the galactic, as well as traditional surface processing, modeling and characterization.

Workshops:

  • Workshop on Scientific Directions at the Advanced Light Source, March 23-25, 1998 , [.pdf file] Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboraotry. Ward Plummer Chaired the Working Group on Complex Materials.

  • DOE sponsored workshop on Soft X-ray Science in the Next Millennium: The Future of Photon-in/Photon-Out Experiments [.pdf file], March 15-18, 2000, Fall Creek Falls State Park, Pikeville, Tennessee. Ward Plummer chaired this workshop.

  • Panel Reports:

Ward Plummer chaired the DOE Basic Energy Science Advisory Committee subpanel for the evaluation of the Intense Pulsed Neutron Source (IPNS) at Argonne National Laboratory and the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) Manuel Lujan Jr. Neutron Scattering Center (February 2001) [.pdf file].
