Astronomy and Physics Specialty
Held each Summer at the University of Tennessee, this one month program is offered to gifted High School Students from Tennessee as an opportunity to attend College level courses. This division of the program is presented by the Department of Physics and Astronomy, located in the Alvin H. Nielson Physics Building on the main campus in Knoxville.

This course uses a college level textbook entitled The Cosmic Perspective. This class includes laboratories as well as lectures. The lab manual is produced by the UT faculty in concordance with the CLEA Computer Labs at Gettysburg College.

The course is taught by Dr. Steve Daunt who is an astronomer and member of the UT Complex Systems Lab group. He is assisted by teaching assistants from our department. This summer they will be Ms. Debbie Price (2nd degree candidate) and Mr. Wesley Robertson (Just graduated Physics Major and now UT grad student). Special observing sessions will be supervised by Mr. Paul Lewis who is the Director of Outreach Programs and the NASA Teachers Resource Distribution Center for UTK Physics & Astronomy.
