The Supernova Multi-messenger Consortium (SMC) had its first official engagement with the LIGO–VIRGO Collaboration (LVC) in Pasadena on March 17 – 18, 2017, as part of a special workshop organized by the LVC and associated with their annual meeting. In the spirit of the board’s name and goals, members of the SMC delivered several presentations during the workshop in an effort to provide a community-approved status report of our knowledge of both the core collapse supernova explosion mechanism and our ability to predict and understand their gravitational wave signatures.
