NuEclipse Workshop in Knoxville

Scientists from all over the world came to campus August 20-22 for NuEclipse (New Extensions of Coherent scattering and other Lepton Interactions for new Physics Searches). The workshop comprised two working days and one day of excursion, coinciding with the COHERENT collaboration’s announcement of the discovery of neutrino coherent scattering at the Spallation Neutron Source and the total solar eclipse. The physics department sponsored NuEclipse, which attracted about 60 scientists from across the US and abroad.

The workshop focused on how the neutrino program at the SNS can influence tests of the Standard Model of electroweak interactions, various aspects of nuclear physics, and studies of supernova explosions. Kate Scholberg from Duke University and UT Physics Professor Yuri Efremenko were workshop co-chairs. The workshop’s success has generated enthusiasm for another meeting, possibly for July 2, 2019, in Chile to coincide with the next total solar eclipse.
